Ice Fantasia

A Faroese shawl in one size with transitioning diamond and chevron patterns that evoke textures and shapes of ice and frost formations. Shawl is worked top-down, with shaping at the shoulders and an applied (knitted on) lace edging at the outer border.
Substituting yarn and/or needles may result in an overall variation in shawl size. 
 
Suggested Yarns: Fearless Fibers Merino Laceweight, Knitting Notions Merino Lace, Wooly Wonka Fibers Merino Laceweight, Woolen Rabbit Whisper Merino Lace, Kaalund Yarns Classic 2, Blue Moon Fiber Arts Laci, or any springy, laceweight yarn with 400 yards per 2 ounces. 

Finished Size:
Length at center back (blocked) = 30 inches
Width across top edge (blocked) = 84 inches
Total circumference at hem (blocked) = 120 inches

Yarn Requirements: 1230 yards (1125 m)

Gauge: 24 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette (unstretched, unblocked; fabric will be relaxed)

Needles:
size 6US (4.0 mm), or size to obtain correct gauge
size 4US (3.5 mm) needle for edging (or needle two sizes smaller than body needle); DPN in same size (optional
