Baby’s first shawl—a soft, magical square, worked in the round from the center out in lace patterns suggesting a field a-buzz with bees and grasses. Worked in washable fingering wool, this piece is as sturdy as it is pretty and practical to use at home or when traveling.
Substituting yarn and/or needles will result in an overall variation in size.
Suggested Yarns:
Woolen Rabbit Essence or Bambino, Briar Rose Grandma’s Blessing, Knitting Notions Superwash Sport, Fearless Fibers Merino Tencel, Zen Yarn Garden Serenity, Shalimar Yarns Zoe, Sunshine Yarns Classic Sock, Three Irish Girls Beckon Merino, or any soft fingering yarn with approximately 400 yards per 4 ounces
Finished Size:
44 inches square (washed and blocked)
Yarn Requirements:
1550 yards
Gauge:
24 sts and 32 rows = 4 inches in stockinette on larger needles (unblocked)
Needles:
size 5US (3.75 mm) 24- and 32- inch circular needles or size to obtain correct gauge
DPNs same size as body needle
32-inch circular needle and a single DPN one size smaller for hem edging (optional)
